Intel Smart Glasses

Intel had the technology to create smart glasses and they were looking for the next best vertical.

The team was focused on the use case for warehouse workers. People who are picking product and packing product. Workers who track shipments all day, every day and may need to scan data, ask for support or run through a series of complicated steps.

I spent 8 months conducting 7 research studies from ethnography to luminance testing to understand the human and technical use cases for this product.

Some of the insights uncovered during this work related to the glasses themselves. People wanted to be able to have a prescription in the glasses, glasses needed to be anti-fog and there needed to be a clear and present light anytime the camera was on. From a service design point of view, there were challenges about sharing glasses between shift workers, how and where to charge the glasses and how to use glasses for picking boxes when the boxes were too high or low for the on face camera to see. Since the project was shelved, many of these questions went unanswered. However, that allows me to share this project with you today.
