Dexcom for T2 Diabetes

Dexcom was originally designed for patients with Type 1, insulin dependent diabetes. For this research, we dived in to gather feedback on insights, settings, and motivational content for this new population of potential Type 2, non-insulin dependent customers.

It was important that the app for T2 patients was even clearer than that for T1 and spelled out the details. Most people with T1 manage diabetes from an early age. T2 patients are often diagnosed as adults and have more to learn. It was important to prompt behavior change with data that was easy to read and makes sense. Motivational messaging needed to be positive, focusing on behaviors done well, not on negative motivators, or pointing out missed opportunities or sub-optimal behaviors. The insights provided by the app were impactful and inspired “mini-experiments” to see how glucose changes in a variety of situations.
